Miscellaneous Details: Please dress for the weather as the event goes forward rain or shine (or snow!)

Volunteer Arrival Time: Arrival times will vary according to your role on the day of the race. You can find this information on the attached spreadsheet that outlines volunteer positions. I have posted everyone’s personal arrival times next to your position. Volunteers are required to arrive 15 minutes early so that they can be briefed on their role and be directed to their station. PLEASE do not be late on the day of the race. Please plan to arrive ahead of time to get yourself organized before beginning your volunteer shift.

Getting There: Festival Plaza is located in between Eau Claire Market and the Eau Claire YMCA.  Street parking is the cheapest, followed by the Eau Claire Market underground parking. If you would like free parking there is limited street parking in Sunnyside (a quick walk over the Princess Island pedestrian bridge). 

Event Info: The start line will be located in festival plaza, about 150m south of the Bow River. The course will be clearly marked via distance markers set up by race marshals (volunteers). One water station will be set up at the start/finish/transition and one water station will be set up on the north side of memorial drive, just west of 10th Street. The event will have participants running and walking. The 2018 Dash of Doom currently has a record number of registration with over 540 runners. This is either a one loop (5km) or two loop (10km) course. There is also a 1km (500 m out and back) kids run.

Volunteer Positions: There are a number of different volunteer jobs for this event that will help to ensure its success. Please see the accompanying spreadsheet for your assigned position and the time you should plan on arriving on event day. Thank you so much for volunteering your time to help us with one of these positions!

Volunteer Shift: Volunteers are to arrive on time for their assigned arrival time. This time will vary slightly. Volunteers are to remain on site for the duration of the event.

Course Information: Please see route map at the bottom of this document for the 5km loop. Participants will run west along the south side of the Bow River turning right over the 14th Street bridge. Participants will then turn east and run the north side of the Bow River before making a right up and over the Princess Island bridge.

Volunteer Dress Code: Volunteers will all be receiving a marshal vest. Also, please be prepared for the weather, it is slated to be warm on Saturday afternoon but this is Calgary and no one can really predict what is going to happen. The event will not be canceled on account of the weather, so please be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws our way.

Run Calgary’s Dash of Doom Objectives: For some runners, this is just a fun run with some friends and for some it’s a challenge. For the kids it’s a chance to run in their costume! The team and volunteers at Run Calgary strive to ensure each racer and volunteer is excited to continue to impact and participate in the run community after finishing the event. We are thankful for your time volunteering and we trust your common sense to ensure runners, other volunteers and Calgarians on the pathway are excited about this growing event.

Emergencies: In the event of an emergency, please act immediately. In the event of a fire, major injury or life-threatening condition, please call 911. In the event of a minor injury on course that the runner cannot walk back to the start/ finish line please call the Race Director at 403.618.2473. *Please note: if an injury occurs along the race route, please help the participant off of the pathway if possible. If the participant is unable to move, please ensure that he or she is safely blocked from other participants. Call the Race Director (403-618-2473) immediately so he can inform the first aid attendants. Remember to clearly identify your location and the nature of the situation.
