Volunteer Info Session: Wednesday September 12, 6:30 pm. We would like to invite you down to Fort Calgary for a Volunteer Orientation. We will be reviewing key roles at this point so that when you show up on Race Day you feel prepared. If you can't make it to the orientation on September 12 no worries, we will have volunteer check-in at the Start/Finish area on Race Day. 

Miscellaneous Details: It is supposed to be cool significantly on Thursday and with that we need you more then ever. Please be prepared with your full snow attire. 

 

Volunteer Arrival Time & Posistion: Arrival times will vary according to your role on the day of the race. You can find this information below, I have posted everyone’s personal arrival times next to your position. Volunteers are asked to arrive 15 minutes early so that they can get set at their station. PLEASE do not be late on the day of the race. Please plan to arrive ahead of time to get yourself organized before beginning your volunteer shift.

Getting There: You can access the startline via the Fort Calgary Parking Lot, East Village St Parking, Ingelwood Street Parking, or the Bridgeland/ Memorial LRT station. We have priority parking for Volunteers, you will need to let the gate attendant know your are volunteering for Beat Beethoven.

Event Info: The start line will be located on the north side of Fort Calgary next to the white event tent. This is a two-loop course that will allow the runners to have many music stations along the route. One water/aid stations will be set up at the 2km/6km. The event will have participants running and walking. At the start/finish line the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra will play 2 sets of 50 minutes. The first set will give runners and walker 50 min cut off to beat Beethoven. The second set will allow runners to enjoy the best of the CPO as they relax with friends and volunteers post run. All proceeds from Beat Beethoven will go to the CPO. For people on course once the tail cyclist is through please come back to the tent for some food and the second set from the CPO.

Volunteer Dress Code: Volunteers will all be receiving a marshal vest, t-shirt and lanyard. Also, please be prepared for the weather, if it is slated to have a chance of snow on Thursday evening. But this is Calgary and no one can really predict what is going to happen. The event will not be canceled on account of the weather, so please be prepared for whatever mother nature throws our way.

Beat Beethoven Objectives: For some runners, this is a great way to enjoy a ore relaxed running event with friends. For other it is a chance to try something new while enjoying the orchestra. The team and volunteers at Run Calgary strive to ensure each racer and volunteer is excited to continue to impact and participate in the run community after finishing the event. We are thankful for your time volunteering and we trust your common sense to ensure runners, other volunteers and Calgarians on the pathway are excited about this growing event.

Emergencies: In the event of an emergency, please act immediately. In the event of a fire, major injury or life-threatening condition, please call 911. In the event of a minor injury on course that the runner cannot walk back to the start/ finish line please call the Race Director at 403.618.2473. *Please note: if an injury occurs along the race route, please help the participant off of the roadway if possible. If the participant is unable to move, please ensure that he or she is safely blocked from other participants. Call the Race Director (403-618-2473) immediately so he can inform the first aid attendants. Remember to clearly identify your location and the nature of the situation.
